On behalf of the entire membership of the International Osteoporosis Foundation (IOF), I would like to warmly congratulate the Japan Osteoporosis Foundation on the occasion of its 20th anniversary. The Japan Osteoporosis Foundation (JOF) is a longstanding and highly esteemed member of IOF, having been one of the ■rst Asian societies to join the IOF Committee of National Societies in 1998 – the year of IOFʼs foundation. Since that time, IOF and JOF have enjoyed excellent collaboration on many fronts, including in research and public awareness activities. We look forward to continuing our fruitful cooperation within IOF as a whole and within IOFʼs regional programme for the Asia-Paci■c region. The osteoporosis landscape has changed immensely since JOFʼs foundation in 1991. Research and health professional knowledge has progressed by leaps and bounds while public awareness of the disease has grown. Clinical management, from our understanding of fracture risk to therapeutics, has seen great advances and resulted in improved patient care. As leaders in the bone and mineral research arena, Japanese researchers have contributed signi■cantly to this progress. With its efforts in medical education, health professional guidance, and public awareness, JOF has been instrumental in advancing osteoporosis prevention and management in Japan. Despite the many advances, we are all aware that much remains to be accomplished in order to reduce the burden of fragility fractures and related musculoskeletal diseases in Japan and around the world. IOF wishes JOF continued success in meeting these future challenges. 10President, International Osteoporosis FoundationProfessor John A. KanisFor Japan Osteoporosis Foundation
